| CIRCULAR RECORDS | Welcome to the Circular Records website. Circular Records is an independent record label based in Edinburgh, Scotland; producing, distributing and promoting new music of the highest calibre throughout the UK/Ireland, continental Europe and America.
Scottish Guitar Quartet
The SGQ are a contemporary music group, comprising four of Scotland's leading acoustic guitarist-composers; Ged Brockie, Nigel Clark, Malcolm MacFarlane and Kevin MacKenzie. We draw on celtic, modern, classical and jazz genres, with strong influences from world music, and blend these disparate styles together to produce an eclectic sound that is both unique and powerful with the textures and timbres of four acoustic guitars.
Ged Brockie
International guitarist Ged Brockie is a member of one of Circular Records other bands the Scottish Guitar Quartet. SGQ go from strength to strength, but in this his first solo release (recorded in 1999 but only now being released), Ged shows just what he is capable of in his own right.
A gifted composer Ged has worked at the highest levels of the music industry playing for composer Carl Davis, RSNO, BBC and a multitude of sideman recordings and West End productions on tour.
Having also composed for several independent feature films and shows, Ged also works with acclaimed Hollywood composer Hummie Mann on his Pacific Northwest film scoring program's Scottish summer school and has studied with Hollywood orchestrator Stephen Scott Smalley.Edinburgh UNITED KINGDOM www : http://www.circular-records.com
| JAZZWERKSTATT RECORDS | JazzWerkstatt Wien was founded on the initiative of Clemens Wenger, Bernd Satzinger, Daniel Riegler, Peter Rom, Wolfgang Schiftner and Clemens Salesny. The goal of these young musicians was to create an inspiring working environment for themselves as well as other artists. In order to realize this idea they utilized a concept by Charles Mingus, who in the early 1950´s established the Jazz Composers Workshop. Then as now, trying new approaches and working methods using mostly original compositions is one of the main goals.
JazzWerkstatt is also a communication platform, bringing together musicians with different stylistic perspectives. The intention is to create a working environment and a performance space to create, practice and present new approaches and ideas. Six artistic directors form ensembles with musicians out of the “JazzWerkstatt-Pool” combined with other musicians and artists according to the occasion. In many cases interesting situations are created by including musicians, instruments and techniques of areas like classical, electronic or hip hop music.
The first concert series took place from March 21 to April 17 2005 at the WUK museum and will be organized each year. It immediately became a significant reference point for artists, journalists and an audience of all ages. A CD-release of live recordings from this concert series was also the start for the newly founded label “JazzWerkstatt Records”, emphasizing again the concept of independence.Vienna AUSTRIA www : http://www.jazzwerkstatt.at | Diverse JazzWerkstatt Wien 2005 [September 5, 2005]
| JOC RECORDS | JOC Records promotes the activities of The Jones O'Connor Group and its members. It has to date released two albums,"Alpha" in 2005 and the new album "A Crow for every Crow"
Dec 07
"The Jones O'Connor Group is an inventive, engaging unit. Compositionally, the record[Alpha] is hip and unpredictable. What's more the players are on the money, in particular Paul Jones - a sensitive Fender Rhodes player on 'True Story' or blazing like McCoy on the rough-edged swing of 'Sonista'. Richard Jones is also a fine electric guitarist, with chops and taste to spare. Proof that London is not the centre of the U.K's jazz universe. In fact, Alpha is excellent, forward-thinking Brit jazz. Rush to their website for more."
Tom Barlow - Jazzwise Magazine
"Spacious Minimalism" The Western Mail
"One of the most exciting bands on the music scene today, influenced by the best forward-looking European jazz groups such as the Cinematic Orchestra. Hugely inventive originals and thoroughly dynamic and driven collective performance…sure to be making waves nationally in the near future." Cardiff University
'Left of centre jazz that flirts with early 70's Miles Davis...Unsung hero's.' Buzz Magazine
'Imaginative and organic improvisation.' Keith Tippett
'A melodic tapestry of simplistic beauty with each musician adding their individualism to the larger picture. Alpha is an album of diversity, self-expression and creativity...9/10.'
